Ko-Thi Classes
The lifeline for any dance company is its ability to stimulate excitement and understanding through exposure to the form. Community classes provide opportunities for students of all ages to study the techniques of traditional African and Caribbean drumming and dance. Considered a part of the Company's educational mission, this community outreach offers experience for age 7 years to individuals over 40. Special emphasis is on body tuning and cardio workout.

Students come from all walks of life, races and religions. Ko-Thi's community classes reflect, inform and sustain human contact; they heal and validate…harmony through movement and rhythm. For many, Ko-Thi studio classes are a family event.

Spring 2013 Studio Classes
The Studio Session (12 Classes) will be held on Saturdays, March 30 - June 29, 2013
NOTE: NO CLASS will be held on May 11 and May 18.

Children's Dance: ages 7-11
...introduces students to the culture and art forms of Africa. Coordination, poly-rhythmic movements and basic positions of West African dance are emphasized. History and language is taught through songs and games.
Time: 9:00 - 10:00 am
Cost: $144

Youth Dance: ages 12-18
...builds on basic dance patterns and incorporates them into sequences. Students learn to use dance as a language. An understanding of this partnership between dancer and drummer is formed.
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 am
Cost: $144

Drumming
...teaches an appreciation for the drum and music of Africa. Students develop rhythmic skills and basic drum techniques. Students must provide their own hand drum. Students will be mentored alongside a Ko-Thi musician during dance classes.
Time: Students will be assigned a class time upon registration.
Cost: $144

Adult African Dance
…offers the techniques, terminology, and fundamentals of African dance movement. Students work for stamina and endurance to live accompaniment, while getting a great aerobic workout.
Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Cost: $150
